In contrast to a killer-app, a nifty-app or nifty-feature is a very useful application that, in of itself, does not drive new or hardware-updating sales, but when combined with other nifty-apps may collectively, over a longer time-frame, have the same effect as a killer-app. The term is used in the context of an argument that the technology sector would be healthier if its sales were driven by a steady accretion of nifty-apps, which would lead to steadier growth than the boom-bust cycle ascribed to killer-apps.
