Also known as a ‘Freezing Injunction,’ is an order obtained in an English, Irish, Canadian, or Australian court or court of another jurisdiction following English precedents, freezing specified assets of a defendant that are at issue in a case, where the plaintiff has demonstrated that there is a risk that such assets may be removed from the jurisdiction. Named after a well-known case, Mareva Compania Naviera S.A. v. International Bulkcarriers S.A., [1975] 2 Lloyd’s Rep. 509 (C.A.). It is usually applied for on an ex parte basis, in England known as an Application Without Notice
