Term used with reference to damages, particularly in patent cases and more recently in copyright. It refers to sales made in conjunction with the goods covered by the intellectual property right. Thus in a patent case a plaintiff might seek additional damages for sales of non-infringing accessories sold with or for the infringing goods as well as damages for the loss of the plaintiff’s own convoyed sales. The term is also used in licensing to describe the extension of the royalty base beyond the licensed products to accessories, consumables, and other associated goods. See Damages.
